SAIT Releases its First Agglomerate Abrasive Material Specification

Following a considerable period of study by SAIT’s Research & Development department, the company has released its first-ever agglomerate cloth offering to the market.

The new solution - known as SAITEX AG-H - features a sturdy H-weight (very heavy) polyester backing, with abrasive formed from microgranules of semi-friable corundum, in a closed structure.

Closed coat abrasives are the ideal choice for polishing applications, due to featuring fewer gaps between the grains than their open coat cousins and henceforth being able to deliver a more uniform scratch pattern as well as a superior level of finish.

Agglomerate abrasives consist of a number of different grains of the same size shaped together into a larger mass – this essentially makes them multi-layered in comparison to a standard abrasive. This factor contributes to a longer lifespan and the fact that the grains are the same size ensures minimal variation in terms of scratch depth and scratch pattern.

In addition, rather than the organic resin binder frequently found holding the microgranules together in agglomerate abrasives, SAITEX AG-H features an inorganic vitrified variant of binder. The aim of this is to further enhance the already impressive lifespan and consistency of finish that an agglomerate belt typically offers.
